The tanning equipment you purchase for home use, will consist of many things, starting with the basics, such as a tanning bed or canopy. Instead of, or in addition to those, you might also choose to purchase a facial tanning unit, in order to enhance a small area that has not tanned evenly in your bed.

For any of these units, you're going to want ask about the lamps or tanning bed bulbs that they are meant to hold, and what options are available to you for replacements.

A good supplier of tanning equipment will be able to give you all the information you need, and if you find one that can't, it's time to look for a dealer that has better trained, or more knowledgeable staff.

Tanning bed bulbs may vary in length, according to the size of the unit, as will lamps for a canopy or other tanning unit. But it's not as simple as buying a 60 watt bulb for the light in your kitchen. These come in varying strengths that will give you an approximate number of hours usage.

Most of the average lamps will be 5% UV rays, which is a relatively standard level with all manufacturers. The next item you'll want to check, is how many hours performance they will deliver. Basic tanning equipment will come equipped with bulbs that last five or six hundred hours. That sounds like a lot, and depending on how many people in the house use it, these may be more than sufficient to last you for years.

If your unit is going to be used frequently for several people, you'll want higher quality tanning bed bulbs, the kind that last six or seven hundred hours, and still have the same 5% UV rays. Or, you can step up to the professional lamps that last a thousand hours or more, and deliver 7% UV rays. The higher UV percentage means faster and deeper tanning.
